Travelling to Oxley United and getting a positive result has resulted in three consecutive undefeated games. Oxley United has been improving with two draws from their last three games, and we were keen to add another three points and move from up to seventh on the ladder from nineth.
It was encouraging to see that the players started where they left off from the Loganholme game. With Lewis working the right side and placing the ball regularly in the danger zone for Oxley, Ian McKenzie scored in the third minute. This was a distinct change from previous weeks where we have been forced to work from behind. Twenty minutes later Luke McKenna scored from outside the box to register his first goal for the club. We maintained pressure sealing the half with a smooth goal from Danny Flaskas on the stroke of half time.
The second half was equally satisfying, especially with Justin Ansell controlling the midfield superbly releasing the wide players and strikers into attack. We maintained our work effort with Jason Poggi and Chris Peever coming off the bench to replace Lewis Dent and Steve Bowles. We combined well again in the seventy forth minute with a clinical goal from Esse. I must stop watching AFL, as I rewarded Esse's effort with a substitution, with Jimmy Meilkejohn getting his first run after a three week break.
Oxley never gave up and for their efforts they scored in the eighty forth minute. Usually a team would put the brakes on and coast to the final whistle, however ACE kept the pressure on and on the stroke of the ninetieth minute, Ian added another gooal with a precision shot in a one on one with the Oxley Keeper.
I Would like to mention a special thanks to Mauro Salamon for his superb efforts in goal. Alex
Senior Vice President Frank Heim and Salvo Sottile were very happy with all the boys who now seem to have established a strong bond booth on the field and off the field. They are certainly displaying a very positive attitude which will serve them well. Club President Claude Sorbello said "It's really great to see the boys play the style of football that we all knew they were capable off. We need to remained focused, keep our feet on the ground and ensure that we continue to build on our team ability each week. It is absolutely wonderfull to see some of the young ACE players do so well each week. Division 2 is a tough competition with many fine teams and good football players."
