Sunday’s game at Wolter Park against Loganholme was nothing short of sensational as both teams battled right to the last minute with 10 men each to finish on a 1 all draw. ACE had no shortage of chances in the first half and should have visited the change rooms at half time at least 3 goals up, however, this was not to be. We certainly had our share of ball in the first 30 minutes of the second half with the boys showing some of the form we know they are capable of, unfortunately we found the woodwork but not the net. An incident in the last 20 minutes led to our goal keeper Gerard being sent off and a penalty awarded against us. With ten men on the field and all of the reserves used up, the boys began passing the Goal Keeper Jersey around looking for someone to face the penalty that could cost us a much needed 3 points. After a long session of pass the Jersey, Kevin Crawford appeared to draw the short straw, and after a brilliant game on the field, Kevi stood on the line waiting for the ref to blow the whistle on the penalty.
The large crowd at Wolter Park were all on their feet and the Western stand exploded into cheer as Kevi made the most important save at Wolter Park this season. But seconds later the penalty taker followed in studs up into Kevi to which ther ref responded with an immediate red card.
With both teams down to ten men and our right fullback as goal keeper, the boys knew it was going to be tough, and the crowd was treated to some exciting football as Kevi did us all proud in goals as the crowd cheered him on. The boys pulled together well and limited the shots on goal and our forwards were unlucky not to score.
Whilst we wanted the three points, you could not have asked for a more exciting game of football and it was great to see the Loganholme player sent off in the clubhouse after the game apologising to Kevi for the incident and shaking hands. This is what football is about and we thank Loganholme for a great game. There is no doubt that the changes of the last three weeks are showing results, we now need to make sure we capitalise on our opportunities.
