Match report:
Last game of the first half of the 2010 Brisbane Premier Div 2 season and a local Derby to boot.
Again, a good start with a long range shot by Ian McKenzie on the 7th minute, places ACE in a good position 1 Nil.
Unfortunately scoring teams can become vulnerable after scoring and we were no different, Samford equalized a few minutes later.
This did not deter the team, we had majority of subsequent possession and kept the Samford Keeper on his toes all the way to the half time break.
The main focus in the change room was to convert this superior possession into goals. In the second half we rose to the occasion with a clever goal by Danny Flaskas in the 49th minute, just what the doctor ordered.
We controled the game in the midfield through Justin Ansell and Luke McKenna, while the defence became impregnable with Glenn Andrews and Damon Austin moving the play quickly from one side to the other. While our wide defenders and wide midfielders interchanged positions frequently confusing the opposition and placing the ball regularly in to Samford penalty area.
All the great play delivered two more goals on the 80th and 90th minute by substitute Jason Poggi and midfielder Luke McKenna.
The most encouraging aspect of the game was that we played with the same intensity and accuracy in the 90th minute as we did when we walked on to the park 90 minutes earlier.
We will need to keep up the great effort as we play the three inform teams in our next 4 games.
Again, great support from the stands and the team appreciates your ongoing and strong support in our rise to 5th position on the table.
