PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Player development is a term which is regularly spoken about but not  always put into practice.  At ACE we take player development seriously which is evident in the resource allocation that the Management Committee allocates to Junior Development each year and by the commitment made to the development of player’s from the age of six through to senior football. The club has 2 Development coaches responsible for development squads from U6 to U11 and one dedicated Director of Football for U6 to U11. All three coaches have an Asian C Class license.  Development squads receive specialised technical training in preparation for the 4 3 3 playing formation recommended by Football Federation Australia. ACE also provides a European Style Football School which runs 11 months of the year and is fully integrated into the club’s technical development model.

ACE also offers a Youth Academy which ensures that player development continues in a structured manner after a player reaches the age of 16. The Academy has yearly intakes based on skills and development opportunity and retains players until the age of 21.
In 2010, the club established a professional association with an Italian Second Division club. This association gives ACE the opportunity to extend player development internationally and introduces European style coaching and tactical expertise to our players. Every year, Italian Coaches visit ACE for one month in their off-season to work with ACE players.

DEVELOPMENT OF JPL

Players not selected in JPL squads are not excluded from the development infrastructure provided by ACE.  The coaching structures of all BJL and Division 1 squads have been integrated with the JPL National Curriculum set out by the FFA. Many of the coaching staff involved with JPL have development responsibility across other divisions ensuring that development occurs within the club at many levels.  BJL and Division 1 players train twice per week and are encouraged to participate in the clubs Football School which provides a third training session per week similar to the JPL training program.  In the next few year's the club is looking to seek promotion into BJL division across all age group and will work hard in 2012 and 2013 to achieve this through the appointment of quality coaches.

We understand that selection into RSJPL is competitive and sadly many young players miss out in their first attempt either through lack of preparation or because there are many players looking to be selected. All players should be encouraged to continue their development and seek opportunities where their technical skills are developed in preparation for the following year’s trial. We encourage parents to refrain from applying too much pressure on these young players as the trial process is mentally and physically draining for young players. Not being selected in the JPL program does not suggest that a player is not a good footballer, however it can be a a motivator to train and work harder in preparation for the following year.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ'S)
We understand and recognise that many parents and players have numerous questions with respect to RSJPL. Below are some frequently asked questions that may assist in the clarification of the program and our club's integration of the program  to our development framework.

How many teams will compete in the JPL in 2012?
There will be 9 teams made up of the 5 Brisbane teams, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Northern NSW and South West Qld.

Will JPL players need to travel to opposing team fields for away matches?
Yes

Will ACE be an JPL club beyond 2012?
We are fully committed to the development of junior football players within the FFA Curriculum.  We undertake this responsibility with passion, committment and determination. If we are successfull, then we believe that we will remain within the JPL  program.

What happens to players who do not make the JPL?
All players not selected in JPL have the opportunity of playing in the clubs BJL or Division 1 teams and participate in the club's Football School. These programs will assist you in the preparation for the following year.

Will ACE participate in the BJL competition?
Yes and through 2012 and 2013 we will do our best to achieve BJL divisions across all junior age groups

Has ACE increased their focus on development since getting JPL?
Between 2007 and 2010, the club has made a considerable financial investment in the construction and improvement of facilities and equipment across our Wolter Park and Brendale facilities. Having completed these initiatives in 2009, the Committee redirected the financial focus to senior and junior player development by restructuring the Technical group and increasing the overall number of experienced coaches around the club. The Management Commitee of ACE is firmly committed to ensuring that players at ACE have access to great facilities as well as professional  coaching.

What other initiatives is ACE undertaking to develop competitive players?
Our key focus is the recruitment and development of experienced coaches that are passionate about developing players both physically, tactically and mentally. Our coaches have achieved the required coaching qualifications and have played Football at a Professional level either in Australia, Europe or South America.  Each year the club sponsors up to 30 coaches to attain formal qualifications from accredited coaching course. All ACE player's across all divisions have the opportunity to participate in a football school which runs 11 months of the year. The football school is run by the Technical Director Salvo Sottile. All coaches involved in the school are highly qualified having played professionally either in Australia or Europe. The football school is voluntary and open to all interested players that are members of ACE for a small cost. We believe that the school working in conjunction with the normal soccer program will increase the development opportunity for all players at ACE in preparation for RSJPL.

What initiatives is ACE undertaking to develop players from U6 to U11?
The clubs selects players to participate in development squads from U6 to U11. These squads are given additional training by highly qualified coaches within a planned structure.  ACE believes that the JPL program will undoubtebly lift the standard of playing in Brisbane for players aged 12 to 16, therefore it is critical that the same effort and initiative occurs in the under 6 to 11 age bracket to ensure players have the necessary skills to be selected into JPL.

Is it true that State Representative players will only be selected from the JPL squads?
Yes

What nights will JPL teams train?
Training will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. All matches will be on Sunday.

In addition to technical structure and coaching what is ACE doing to improve the facilities and playing experience for players and their families?
ACE has a tremendous expansion program which over the past three years has seen the assets of the club grow by more than $1.5 million. In 2010 the clubs Wolter Park fields was resurfaced, lights at Brendale upgraded (thanks to Moreton Bay Council) and a grandstand for 250 people built. In March of 2011, our Brendale facilities will open 2 new full size fields and an additional car park for 100 vehicles and a bus drop off zone. We are working on plans to increase our change rooms at Brendale from 3 to 8 as well as further seating for new fields. We have also resurfaced and fenced two of our Brendale fields. This level of commitment will continue to ensure the clubs is in a position to meet the ongoing growth in players.

How will Players be selected under the new trial method?
ACE will have coaches and senior technical staff involved in every age trial on the north side. Player selection will be done by ACE coaches in consultation with Football Queensland Technical People.

How will clubs know which players are available from selection at the trials?
All players participating in the trials will be available for selection however a preference method exists where players, as part of their registration process must nominate the club they would prefer to play with. The players will also need to select their second, third and so forth preferences as part of the registration process.

Will a player need to register in order to participate in the trials?
Yes, all players looking to trial must register with Football Queensland.

Will all players in the 2011 squads have to trial for 2012?
No. Players will receive a letter from Football Queensland advising them if they need to trial or not. If they have been asked to trial, they will need to register with Football Queensland.

What is the clubs view on JPL players that are not retained in subsequent years?
We believe that a player who is involved in this program for a year or more and who committs fully to the development opportunities available to them will automatically have an advantage in being reselected. The JPL program is an elite program and by definition reflects the pressures on professional football players to retain their position within a squad.  We believe it is important to provide equal entry opportunityy to all available players every year.

Will JPL squads have a Manager?
Yes, we will be seeking a volunteer parent to act as the Manager for the squad.

What will ACE expect from JPL players and parents?
JPL will represent the elite competition in Brisbane providing young footballers the opportunity to fulfil their dreams through quality coaching that will develop each individual player. ACE JPL players are expected to look and behave professionally at all times. Players should have a positive attitude be well behaved with a firm commitment to their coach, their team and the club. Players are expected to strive to achieve their best during training and games with a key focus on development.

Will a player in BJL and Division 1 at ACE be given priority in JPL selections in subsequent years?
All players participating in JPL trials will be given the same opportunity and awarded positions on the JPL squad based on their ability. We have faith in our development focus and believe that ACE players will be better prepared for JPL trials due to their close involvement with the competition and ongoing exposure to the JPL training methods.

What will ACE provide JPL players as a means of succession after they are too old for JPL?
ACE offers a Youth Development Academy which provides an excellent pathway for development.  Players are selected into this Academy based on their ability and skills. Players can be part of the Academy up to 6 years depending on players meeting the set requirements.  The club also has a number of other programs and relationships which provide players opportunities to play at a higher level than what the club offers in the advent that they are ready for this step.

What if I cannot afford to have my child participate in this program?
The first step in the process is selection. ACE believes that a player with ability should be given the opportunity to participate irrespective of their financial situation. The club is happy to discuss real hardship situations and do everything available to the club to try and assist.
