WOLTER PARK - OPEN

24th September 2011 Division 2 Boys Win Championship.
A large ACE crowd gathered at Perry Park to create a wall of red, black and white as our boys entered the field as the underdogs against Premiership Winners Loganholme. A well timed header by Nick Moffatt in the 7th minute caught Loganholme by surprise and brought the ACE supporters to their feet. Loganholme responded by constantly attacking our half but were retained by a strong and determined ACE defence which remained solid for the entire 90 minutes. Full of confidence from the first half, Moffatt found himself in range and brilliantly turned to beat the defender and pulled the trigger leaving the goal keeper with no chance. A doubtful penalty to Loganholme in the last five minutes completed the score at ACE 2, Loganholme 1. ACE supporters erupted as team Captain Ian McKenzie raised the Championship trophy to the crowd. The depth of the club’s talent was evident in the winning team which had 6 players who started the season in Reserve Grade and three players from our Premier Youth.
23rd September 2011 Division 2 Reserves Win Championship.
In a historic 92nd minute decider goal by ACE junior Lewis Dent against Loganholme, the ACE div 2 Reserve team made club history in winning both the Premiership and Championship in 2011. Under the leadership of Coach Greg Bradley, the boys had strong season and demonstrated early that they had both the desire and ability to get the double. Club Junior Robert Cardillo topped the goal scoring table for the division with 23 goals, four goals in front of Lewis Dent with 19 who finished third on the table. The final played at Beenleigh was filled with highs and lows keeping the more than 100 strong ACE supporters on the edge of their seat to the last second of the game. Team Captain Nathan Bryant represented the club brilliantly in his acceptance speech. Well done lads.
19th September 2011 ACE Awarded Club Championship Trophy from Football Brisbane
Club President Claude Sorbello accepted this prestigious award on behalf of the club at the Football Brisbane Gala Dinner. In accepting this award, Claude thanked the many players, coaches, managers and volunteers who collectively work each week for the passion of the game and the players. This award acknowledges the hard work that so many people at ACE put into the club each week and the fantastic contribution that the Technical group has made to the development of player’s across the entire club. “I’m proud to be President of a great club full of wonderful people and I encourage everyone to keep up the hard work” said Sorbello.
6th September 2011 Division 2 Gains Promotion to Division 1.
After a turbulent season, the objective for the year was achieved as the team finished second by 4 points and qualified for promotion. Division 2 was certainly a surprising one as all clubs involved performed strongly and were able to take points on their night. The boys never stopped believing in their ability and in the end were rewarded by promotion. We look forward to returning into Division 1 in 2012 as the club prepares our application for the 2013 Brisbane Premier League Restructure. This promotion is timely as the club announces a major extension to Wolter Park in 2013
3rd September 2011 Division 2 Reserves win Premiership.
A strong finish to the season saw our boys finish 9 points clear of second place Loganholme after defeating the Gap 5 to 0 in front of a huge home crowd at Wolter Park. Coach Greg Bradley is proud of his boys that have been very united and consistent throughout the year. Three boys from Reserve grade and one from Premier Youth moved into topside during the year to fill spots that became available due to injuries. This is evidence that the ACE development program is working as the Reserve grade still had sufficient quality players to go on and win the Premiership. Well done to all the players, Greg and Herb on a fantastic season.

This is the third of our four fields now that has been resurfaced in the past 3 years which is a tremendous achievement. We acknowledge the Moreton Bay City Council and in particular Mike Charlton for providing a $50,000 grant for this work.  The balance of funds needed for the work were provided by the Club which were raised from the fund raising activities at the club run by the Management Committee.  Special  thanks goes out to the council and the contractor who worked in very difficult conditions with excessive rains in December and January causing delays on top of delays. Club President Claude Sorbello said "I am very proud that ACE kids can now play on three top class fields at ACE and I hope that all of our members, players, coaches and managers appreciate the hard work that has been made by the Management Committee in adding more than two million dollars to the infrastructure available for our kids. Certainly some funds have been obtained from grants, however, if you have ever applied for a grant in Australia you will understand that the process is laborious, complex and very time consuming".

20/11/2010 - ACE scores $2000 thanks to the Brisbane Roar.

Thanks to the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots Fund, ACE were given $1000 and a further $1000 for each goal scored by the Roar in their game against North Queensland Fury, on Saturday night. With the Roar, being top of the ladder and our Queensland compatriots in the lower reaches of the ladder, hopes were high for a goalfest at Suncorp. Unfortunately, the Fury scored early and then "parked the bus" asking a tired Roar team to break them down. Thankfully, with less than ten minutes to go, Ivan Franjic scored to give the Roar a deserved equaliser and ACE another $1000. Many thanks to Sue Coburn, pictured, for entering the competition and receiving the cheque on behalf of ACE. A huge thank you to Hyundai for their sponsorship and the Brisbane Roar for hosting the ACE contingent and thanks to Ivan for his timely goal.

8th November 2010 ACE Signs Agreement with Italian Serie B Club
More than 12 months of discussions and negotiations came to a close today as we received an agreement signed by the President of AlbinoLeffe which establishes a partnership between our two clubs. AlbinoLeffe plays in the Italian Serie B league and boast a very strong junior base with teams involved in the local and national competition. The agreement with our club gives us the opportunity to send a group of players to their club every year. The group will be trained by AlbinoLeffe’s National Youth coaches and play against junior national teams and also junior teams from surrounding clubs that are associated with AlbinoLeffe. As part of the agreement, AlbinoLeffe will provide technical assistance to ACE and coaches that will be involved in specialised clinics during the year. In signing the deal on behalf of the Executive Committee, Club President Claude Sorbello said “This is an important agreement for ACE which shows the club’s commitment to the development of players. We decided to align ourselves to an Italian Club as clearly the Italian tactical expertise is renowned around the world and something that will add value to the style of football that we play in Australia. Young players at ACE now have the opportunity to follow football careers in Australia or Overseas”. “Coaches from AlbinoLeffe will visit ACE at least once a year and our players will visit their facilities for two weeks each year. Any players identified will be invited to remain in Italy for two months for further identification.  This is another example of sport globalisation which is possible even for a local Brisbane Football Club” said Sorbello.

The QAS girls were down a couple of their Matilda Players still getting over some injuries in the Asian Cup and the game was played in good spirit with some excellent display of end to end football.  The ACE U15 RSJPL were focused on the last of a three match series which had previously been drawn at one game each with each side scoring 5 goals each. An early penalty to QAS started the goal count which inspired the ACE boys to score 4 times and win the series.  Special thanks to Jeff and the QAS girls for a great game of football.
The Toowomba game was difficult for the Toowoomba boys who spent 2.5 hours in traffic after a day's work before fronting a very motivated and committeed ACE side.  The game had plenty of goals finishing ACE 8, Toowomba Nil, with Torres scoring his eight Goal on his last match with ACE before going to the US next week on a Football Scholarship.    ACE is now through to the Semi-Final of the Canale Cup meeting Premier League table leaders Rochedale.  Rochedale defeated North Pine 4 to 3 to gain their place in the Semi.View highlights of the game, coaches report and coaches interviews Click Here.

20/5/2011 Two New Fields at Brendale -
Over the past four and a half years we have been in collaboration with the Moreton Bay City Council about the club’s strategic and expansion plans. The work has now been rewarded as council this week commences work on our two new fields and a new car park on the Southern side of our existing fields at Brendale. Works are part of a $3.7 million budget approved by council to develop sporting facilities in the Brendale Sports Complex. This initiative is indicative of the commitment and vision that the Moreton Bay City Council has for the community. Mike Charlton, his fellow councillors and staff of Moreton Bay, truly understand the importance of supporting community sporting clubs like ACE and we cannot thank them enough for their understanding, vision and support. Club President Claude Sorbello said “Working with Mike Charlton and the Moreton Bay City Council in general is a pleasure. They are a group of people that are committed to sport, to children and to the community. Their attitude is one of collaboration rather than conflict and they truly understand the limitations placed on volunteer run clubs like ACE. I wish that some of the other Government bodies took a similar hands on approach.  The two new fields will be ready in time for the 2011 season allowing ACE to continue growing.

A fundamental essence of our club is family and community and this loss unites us in acknowledging an individual that committed so much of his time, life and energy for all members and players of our sporting clubs.

Gerry's funeral held at Wolter Park on Friday the 29th of August at 2.00 p.m. was attended by more than 300 family, friends, current and previous members. The afternoon was filled with the famous Gerry cheer " ACE ACE ACE!" and was labeled by the family as a celebration of Gerry's life. Among the many great stories about Gerry, one grandchild told us of an incidence only days before his passing.  Gerry overheard one of his family members complaining about an individual at work which was making life difficult for her. Having overheard the story, Gerry asked for the persons name and then replied, "Don't worry love, I will take care of this, I'm about to go into the haunting business! This story, potrays the humour of a great man.

Gerry left the field to the sound of the final whistle from the ref.  The exit of the field was surrounded by a guard of honour of player's and club members wearing the club colours and then by a wall of family and friends.  Gerry, followed by a number of vintage cars, did a final lap of Wolter Park and then drove past the guard of honour to a roaring applause and upon reaching his grandchildren, they released red, white and black ballons into the sky.

Gerry's memory will be around ACE for many years to come hopefully inspiring others to develop and expand our club to it's fully potential.  We will miss you mate!
15/08/2008WE DID IT -  ACE Brendale facility transforms with the opening of a Modern Club House
What started as a bitter disappointment as the State Government turned down our grant application for a facilities building turned our way after a meeting between our Club President Claude Sorbello, Senator George Brandis the Federal Minister of Sport and Peter Dutton.  Recognising our needs, the Federal Government promptly approved a grant for $165,000 as a contribution towards our project keeping the project alive.  This instigated the opportuinty for further negotiations with Councillor Mike Charlton and various members of Pine Rivers Council which led to another $165,000 grant towards the project.  With $330,000 in hand versus our original application for $200,000 we set about building a modern facilities building that would establish a new benchmark for the clubs future and direction.  From here it became a challange on how to get the most out of limited amounts of funds in order to build what we truly needed rather than just toilets and changerooms.  Our President and our member Ian Howie, both involved in the construction industry, set about establishing a plan where Ian would build the building whilst Claude would manage all other aspects of the project in order to save costs.  The work of many volunteers and in particular the Management Committee over many weekends saved costs and the assistance of local businesses some of which were members of the club assisted in keeping costs low.  The result is a building valued at over $1,000,000 built with $330,000 of grants, $100,000 of club funds, $30,000 worth of work donated by Ian Howie, over $100,000 worth of work donated by our President and the rest made up of voluntter assistance and business support. All the money invested by the club in this project were raised through special initiatives run by the Management Committee resulting in members not needing to make additional contributions to its construction.  This is the spirit of ACE. We acknowledge and offer special thanks to Peter Dutton, Mike Charlton and Senator Brandis.

BRENDALE FACILITIES BUILDING 11/01/2008

After considerable negotiation and support from Peter Dutton the club was successfull in obtaining funds that will allow the commencement of a new facilities building at the Brendale Junior fiels.  This facility will replace the temporary demountables that have been used as toilets dor the past 6 years.  The Pine Rivers Council through the leadership of Mike Charlon also provided a level of assistance which has been tremendous and has allowed the scope of the project to develop a little more.  Work commenced on the new facility in January 2008 with an expected completion of June 2008.

New Lights at Wolter Park Dec 2007

After failing the yearly light test at Wolter Park we were advised by the lighting consultants that the only way to pass the test was to replace every light on the light poles.  Unfortunately this had not been budgeted however the importance of the matter ment we had no choice on the matter.  Fortunately our inhouse electrician Steve from Laser Electric quickly stepped in to negotiate a price for the work and thanks to some assistance from the local council we were able to complete the work in time for the start of the season.  Thank Steve for your assistance.

New Goal Posts at Wolter Park and Brendale Oct 2007

Stephen Bryant and Brad Robinson designed and constructed the new goal posts that have been installed at Wolter Park and Brendale.  Their design ensures safety for players and ease of use in attaching and detaching the nets.  The club has invested more than $29,000 on new goal posts for seniors and juniors across the club.  The additional goals at Brendale have now allowed for a second full size field to be created for weekend matches.

Irrigation System at Brendale Rooball Fields Jan 2008

After many years I'm happy to say that we have retired the big boom spray and replaced it with a set of undergroud sprinkler system that will ensure we get water to the field as opposed to the surrounding areas.  This investment of $11,500 will ensure that our Rooball fields will hold out better for our little ones during the season.
