Albany Creek 3 vs SS Eagles 2
Its been a huge week at ACE with a win against Annerley and 120 minute mid week win against Peninsula Power, we were asking a lot from the team.
The team, minus their captain Ian McKenzie, who was by the side of his wife and new baby daughter. We also introduced our newest player Anthony Paolino. Both Salvo and I were surprised how quickly SS Eagles scored their first goal, and we knew we were in for a long night. The team looked tired and it took another 15 minutes before we started to move the ball around the ACE way. From such a structured build up, Anthony scored his first goal for his new club in the 37th minute. We hit the change rooms at half time. It was the first time that we discussed that a draw would be an acceptable outcome.
The second half started with SS Eagles pressing hard and the game quickly going from one goal area to the other. Again SS Eagles explored our drop in concentration and they scored their second goal. After making several substitutions, the fresh legs gave us a lift and through some nice build-up play Anthony found the net again for his second goal in the 74th minute, to bring the score equal. What Italy couldn't do in the world cup, Roberto did scoring in the 82nd minute for his first goal and to celebrate he flashes his undershirt showing the Italian flag.
The last 11 minutes was hard to watch as SS Eagle pulled all punches trying to grab a point from the game. Fortunately for the team we held on and earned the three points.
I would like to congratulate Glenn Andrews, Anthony Paolino and Salaman Mauro for their outstanding efforts in supporting our tired boys.
Unfortunately not everything was good in the game, Efoe (Esse) Kouwonou suffered a broken leg and will be sidelined for 4 - 6 weeks. We wish him a speedy recovery.
